Name:  Nathan Eagleburger
Age:  16
Family:  Parents, Jeff and Pam Eagleburger; one sister, Brittany, age 13.
FFA Group:  Buffalo High School, advisor Terry Halleran

How are you involved in agriculture?
“I show Angus cattle. I have some horses. I just try to better my herd.” Nathan’s herd of cattle consists of about 20 cows, six heifers, and three or four bulls. The size of his herd depends on the time of year. One bull is an FFA State Angus Champion.

Who are your role models?
“At an early age, as far as agriculture, my dad. Mr. Halleran is a pretty good role model as far as teaching. Jordan, Clint, and David Hunter have been a big help learning to show and helping to learn genetics within the breed.”

Why is it important for kids to be involved in agriculture?
“It builds moral character. There’s always something to do. You’re not just sitting around all the time. You also make a lot of friends when you’re showing that you wouldn’t have met.”

Why Angus?
“A lot of people want black and it’s a lot easier to supply if you have a black breed.”

What's the most important lesson you've learned on the farm?
“Be aware. Don’t just touch the heifer. Make sure she knows you’re there. I found that one out the hard way.” Nathan explained he was flipped into the air by a cow  – and won’t soon forget it.
