Name:  Harrison Moore
Parents:  Danny and Debbie Moore
FFA Chapter:  Calico Rock, advisor, Ms. Leslie Newsom

How are you involved in agriculture?
“I have been involved my whole life because I’ve always lived on a farm,” explained Harrison, who's from Viola, Ark. “I’ve been showing cattle now about three years and I am in business with my sister, Lara. Most of what I’ve learned about showing and caring for cattle, I’ve learned from her.”

How does your FFA Chapter compliment your showing?
“I am a member of the show team at Calico Rock High School. We actually have a cattle barn, pig barn and greenhouse at the school with the FFA chapter. We bring our cattle to the barn and gather there before and after school to work with the animals and help each other out with halter breaking, washing and preparation."

What is the best part of growing up on a farm?
“Raising cattle and turning them into a project and seeing how they do in the show ring has been one of the best things for me. It’s a lot of fun  — working with an animal and then showing that calf and walking out of the show ring with a purple ribbon is the best feeling,” said Harrison. "I have learned you get out of it what you put in.”

Who is your role model?
“Honestly my sister Lara has been my biggest role model for my show cattle. She first helped me in my showing career and everything I learned has been from watching her."

What are your future plans?
“At the Izard County Fair last summer, I showed a heifer that won County Bred and Owned; Junior Bred and Owned and Grand Champion Simmental heifer. This year I plan to attend Simmental Regional’s in Oklahoma and Nationals in Indiana,” Harrison explained.
“I plan to stay active in my FFA chapter and graduate high school. From there, I’ve been looking at the program at Southern Arkansas University at Magnolia. I’d like to become a vet and they have a program with some guaranteed spots to LSU (vet school) if I got accepted."
