Coose Trailer Manufacturing, Inc.
Owners:  David and Elaine Coose
Location:  512 W. 4th St., Lockwood, Mo.

Company History:  Coose Trailers began back in 1978 when David decided to build a trailer for his own farm use. “He never got one for the farm,” Elaine recalled. His grandfather wanted the first one David built, an uncle claimed the second, a neighbor admired the third. “And suddenly we were in the trailer business,” David said. The business began on the farm, moved to its present location in Lockwood in 1986, and currently employs 15 and has dealers across the United States.

Products/Services:  The company produces livestock, flatbed and cargo trailers. The Cooses always have manufactured metal-top livestock trailers, but recently introduced a new, more economical line that features a canvas top and cleated rubber flooring in the rear that lessens the chances of cattle falling upon loading. Their cargo trailers are popular for individual, business and construction uses.

How do you stay ahead of your competition?
“The key is David listens to what the dealers tell him,” Elaine said. “He listens to what they say the farmers and ranchers are looking for.” The couple also studies new products – such as the rubber flooring – and David incorporates them into the trailers he designs. “We custom build, and our trailers are known as quality trailers that last a long time,” Elaine said.

What is your philosophy on business?
The Cooses’ philosophy is to give their customers the kind and quality of products they want for themselves. “I build every trailer as if I’m building it for myself,” David said.
