The American Gelbvieh Junior Association (AGJA) held their annual national junior show July 1-6 in Chillicothe, Mo. The 2012 AGJA Black and Gold Classic hosted 276 Gelbvieh and Balancer® animals exhibited by 160 junior members from 18 states.

 

The week-long event not only included the exhibition of the best Gelbvieh and Balancer females, bulls and market steers from across the country, but youth also participated in 23 educational contests and programs. The Black and Gold classic was hosted by the Heart of America Gelbvieh Junior Association and was held at the Litton Center.

 

The livestock shows were held on Thursday and Friday. Evaluating the 132 Gelbvieh females and 17 bred and owned Gelbvieh bulls was Wes Hudson, Harrison, Ark. Evaluating the 103 Balancer females, 10 bred and owned Balancer bulls and 14 market steers was Jeff Dameron, Lexington, Ill.

 

John Shearer, Canton, Kan., exhibited the grand champion Gelbvieh female. CIRS 6BX ET is a February 2010 daughter of EGL Fosters LO17 ET and first claimed the cow-calf division.

 

The reserve grand champion Gelbvieh female and grand champion bred and owned Gelbvieh female was exhibited by Rasha Martin, Judsonia, Ark. DMC Cynthia 143Y10 is an April 2011 daughter of DMC Top of the Class 15W1 and was the spring yearling division winner.

 

Tanner Aherin, Phillipsburg, Kan., exhibited the reserve grand champion bred and owned Gelbvieh female. ABLT Miss Impact 5Y is a March 2011 daughter of DLW Impact 840 19W and was the spring yearling division reserve bred and owned Gelbvieh female.

Leading the grand champion bred and owned Gelbvieh bull was Ariana De La Garza, Centennial, Colo., with AAD R True Grit 1103Y, a January 2011 son of BABR RID Rooster Cogburn 854U.

 

Cole Buffo, Lansing, Kan., exhibited the reserve grand champion bred and owned Gelbvieh bull. CBVF Tap This is a March 2011 son of CIRS Alternating Current.

 

In the Balancer show, the grand champion Balancer female was exhibited by Britney Volek, Highmore, S.D. BABR 1015Y ET is a February 2011 female sired by S A V Brilliance 8077. Britney first claimed winter yearling division with her heifer.

Coming out of the same division was the reserve grand champion Balancer female. Sydney Taubenheim, Amherst, Neb., exhibited this winning female. TAU Miss Gridiron 131Y is a February 2011 daughter of TC Gridiron 782 and was the reserve Gelbvieh female from the winter yearling division.

 

Exhibiting the grand champion bred and owned Balancer female was Brad McWilliams, Asbury, Mo. Also from the winter yearling division, HTFB Ms Candy Y803 is a February 2011 daughter of TAU Mr Krugerrand 70M 130P.

 

The reserve grand champion bred and owned Balancer female was COLB Collins Yancy 104Y. Exhibited by Collin Berkley, Osborne, Kan., this January 2011 daughter of TAU Tuned In 55T was also from the winter yearling division.

 

Kyle Vehige, Bonnots Mill, Mo., exhibited the grand champion bred and owned Balancer bull. KDV T Bar S Burnout 5Z is a February 2012 son of JLAB 667S ET.

 

The reserve grand champion bred and owned Balancer bull was exhibited by Lynae Bowman, Germantown, N.C. LEBC Major Edition 27Y is a December 2011 son of LEBC Morning Edition 720T.

 

In the market steer show, the grand champion market steer was exhibited by Cade Cameron, Danville, Iowa, and weighed 1,295 pounds. The reserve grand champion market steer was exhibited by Anna Ring, Oregon, Ill., and weighed 1,365 pounds.

The champion pen of three Gelbvieh females was exhibited by Kansas, with reserve going to Missouri. The champion pen of three market steers was also exhibited by Kansas.
