FULTON, Mo. – The 91st annual Soils, Crops & Livestock Producers (SC&LP) Conference on Jan. 10 offers updates from University of Missouri Extension, the Farm Service Agency and the Natural Resources Conservation Service.

The event had been on Tuesday night in the past, said Heather Smith, livestock specialist for MU Extension at Callaway County. Moving the conference to Saturday evening gives livestock producers more time to do chores before attending.

“One of the goals of the committee is to increase the number of younger producers attending the conference,” Smith said. “By moving the day to a weekend and providing activities for the kids, we hope to encourage younger families to attend.” Holding the event on a weekend night also allows school-age children to attend the Future Producers Conference, which will be going on in conjunction with this conference.

The SC&LP Conference begins at 4:30 p.m. at Callaway Electric Cooperative, 1313 Cooperative Drive, Fulton. A free buffet-style supper begins at 6 p.m. Doug Peterson of NRCS will explain a rainfall simulator at 6:45 p.m.

Numerous Callaway County businesses and agencies sponsor trade show booths. MU Extension specialists and other agency representatives will talk about swine and beef production, farm economics and soil health at trade show booths.

The Future Producers Conference offers fun educational opportunities for children. This event starts at 4 p.m. at the Callaway County MU Extension Center, 5803 County Road 302, Fulton. MU Extension nutrition specialists and 4-H youth and adult volunteers will help children make their own dinner and ice cream. Other special activities will teach kids about conservation, embryology and agriculture.

Pre-registration is required for the Future Producers Conference. Contact Smith at [email protected] or 573-642-0755.
