Eye on Agribusiness
Owners: Don Goyette and Debbie King
Location: Protem, Mo.
Company History: Hedgpeth Saddlery was founded in 2003 by David and Kathy Hedgpeth. In May 2009, Debbie King and Don Goyette completed an extensive training period of about six months, and then they purchased the company and took over the day-to-day operations. They have continued crafting saddles in the same manner of the original owners, creating saddles that are easy on riders with a specially built comfort seat.
Products and Services: “We offer handcrafted and tooled saddles made from the highest quality leather. We offer two seat sizes, 15” and 18” and all saddles have 5” cantle. Riders say their ankles and knees no longer hurt or swell after riding in our saddle. The saddle is also easy on the horse. The underneath of the saddle is top grade sheep wool. We take custom orders, and also can make children’s saddles. Each saddle is numbered by the maker. Our daughters also are trained and complete the tooling process of the saddles. There is no order too big, or too small.”
What’s in the company’s future?
“The company began as a one-man shop and we are working hard to expand production and to sell in other states and to have our saddles featured in many tack stores.”
