Ingredients:

1/2 C. molasses

1/2 C. butter, cut into pieces

1 C. boiling water

2 Tbsp. ginger

1/2 tsp. cloves

1/3 C. sugar

1 egg

1 3/4 C. flour

1/2 tsp. cinnamon

1 tsp. baking soda

Directions:

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Put molasses, sugar and butter into a ceramic mixing bowl and pour the water on top. Stir until batter is melted. Add egg and beat well. In another bowl, whisk together flour, ginger, cinnamon, cloves and baking soda; add to butter mixture and beat until smooth. Pour into a greased 9-inch square baking dish and bake for 35 minutes, or until toothpick inserted in the middle comes out clean.
