What are some of your accomplishments in FFA?
“I competed at the state level four years in a row. I got first place my sophomore year in high school with a state proficiency in forage production. Last year I took first place in agricultural services entrepreneur and placement combined proficiency award and competed in October at National Convention in Indianapolis, Ind.”
What is your agricultural service project?
“When I was 15 I started a custom haying operation. On average I bale 3,500 to 4,000 round bales a year. I also haul hay for people or when someone buys hay from me I will haul it. I haul hay for two feedlots. Plus, I just bought 160-acre row crop farm outside Mt. Vernon, Mo. I plan to plant corn this spring. My parents have always said if you want to farm start young, so I took their advice.”
Why did you choose a degree in diesel technology?
“My dad always told me if I’m going to farm I better be a darn good mechanic. So I’m killing two birds with one stone. I plan to transfer to Missouri State University and get my bachelor’s in agriculture mechanics after I get my associate degree.”
Best advice: “My dad told me buy only the equipment I need and pay it off before I buy something else. It’s worked so far.”
