COLUMBIA, Mo.– University of Missouri Extension’s Fire and Rescue Training Institute (MU FRTI) will conduct the 34th annual Winter Fire School and Equipment Exposition in Columbia, Feb. 6-8. The Winter Fire School (WFS) provides state-of-the-art training for firefighters, emergency medical personnel and other emergency responders from across Missouri and surrounding states. This year’s WFS is expected to have more than 2,000 enrollments.

WFS 2015 will offer more than 100 classes mirroring the services that firefighters and other emergency personnel provide on a daily basis. Topics of special interest this year include “Taking Action Against Cancer in the Fire Service,” “Attack From the Burned Side,” “The 2015 Company Officer: Are You Up for the Challenge?” and “Aircraft Rescue Firefighting Techniques for Emergency Responders.”

This year MU FRTI will again offer three of the institute’s four-hour workshops via webcast. Participants only need a high-speed Internet connection to be a part of the class and participate in Winter Fire School from their home or fire station computer. All webcast subscribers will receive a certificate of attendance.

Classes will be conducted on the MU campus beginning Saturday morning and continuing through noon on Sunday.

WFS officially kicks off at noon Friday at the Holiday Inn Select with the Midwest’s largest fire school equipment exposition. More than 100 vendors will display the newest in fire trucks, ambulances, rescue equipment, protective apparel, warning devices, specialized tools and other emergency service equipment. The exposition is free and open to the public. The hours are from noon until 9 p.m.

MU FRTI is a part of the University of Missouri Extension and is charged with the responsibility of providing comprehensive continuing professional education training to Missouri’s fire service and emergency response personnel. The Institute provides training to approximately 14,000 fire and emergency service first responders each year.
